Peter Greste is an Australian war correspondent stationed in Cairo to replace another reporter. Political tensions fluctuate as Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi continues their military takeover of Egypt. Wholly unaware of Sisi rooted hatred for his employer, Al Jazeera, he and his team are arrested revealing the conflict ridden war on truth.
The Making of The Correspondent
In late 2013, Peter Greste and his colleagues were arrested in Cairo amidst its political turmoil, leaving the world to ponder their discordant situation. Their producer, Carmel Travers, prophesied the issue to resolve itself until their imprisonment lasted months at a time. Peter's position became more dire until he was finally released in 2015, finally meeting with Travers and connecting on his memoir, The First Casualty.
In cooperation, they adapted his story into a film that showcases his experience and the universal struggle of those in an already struggling system. Kriv Stenders inserted himself on board as a director drawing in on his experience with both documentary and commercial films, Peter soon adapting the screenplay. Finally, the team was able to drop a surreal and ultimately raw scope of Egypt's political mishappens.
